Job Description

The Diocesan Hockey program is seeking a passionate and experienced coach to develop and lead & oversee our Y5-Y8 Hockey program!

This is an exciting opportunity to work with talented students across Years 5-8, fostering a love for hockey whilst improving their overall game knowledge and technical ability under the guidance of the Diocesan Head of Hockey.
 

Desired Skills and Experience

About our Junior School Hockey Development Coach role:

Season: May - September (Term 2 & 3)
Additional optional hours: Trials (Feb- April) Pre-Season: Term 1 (Feb - April). Post Season: Term 4 (Oct - Dec), Holiday Camps (Dec, July, Oct), Holiday Clinics (All year). 
Training Sessions: Tuesdays 6.45-8am, Tuesdays 3.15-5.15pm, Wednesdays 3.30-6pm, Fridays 6.45-8am
Location: Diocesan Hockey Turf
Focus: Technical & basic skills training, tactical guidance, small games and introduction to set plays. 
6 aside, 7 aside, 11 aside formats. 
Games: 
Between Saturday 8-1pm

Key Responsibilities:

You will be working alongside the Head of Hockey in leading and planning engaging training sessions.  You will be: 

  • Overseeing, managing & helping support our student coaches
  • Engaging in Master-teach skills & game concepts to all students & student coaches
  • Overseeing & assisting in the coaching of Saturday morning games 
  • Ensuring smooth running of operations week to week (communicate player availability/subs, coach allocation, venue changes etc).
  • Providing feedback to players, student coaches & parents 
  • Ensuring safety and maintaining appropriate student-to-coach ratios during all sessions.
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Communicating effectively with the Head of Hockey, School sports department, Sports Director, students & parents.

You will have the following Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven experience in playing & coaching in Hockey (preferable but not essential).
  • Lots of initiative, enthusiasm and positive energy
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to inspire and motivate young athletes.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Ability to communicate well & work collaboratively with parents and school staff.

Additional Details:
Events: Coaches may be required to support students during key competitions, including school interzones, central zone days, social events, exchanges, tournaments.
