Job Description
Mō te tūranga: About the role
The Diocesan Hockey program is seeking passionate and experienced coaches to coach Hockey at Diocesan School for Girls. The positions we are looking for are:
Junior School Hockey coaches: Years 1-6
Senior School Hockey coaches: Years 7&8, Under 15, 3XI, 2XI, 1XI and Goalie.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with young students, fostering a love for hockey whilst improving their overall game knowledge and technical ability in a fun, rewarding & nurturing hockey environment!
● Season: May - September (Term 2 & 3).
● Pre-Season (optional): Feb - April.
● Post Season (optional): Oct - Dec.
● Holiday Camps (optional): School Holidays - April, July, Oct, Dec.
Key Responsibilities:
● Lead & plan engaging training sessions under the direction of the Head of Hockey.
● Teach & explain skills & game concepts to all students.
● Coach / umpire your team in matches.
● Ensure smooth running of operations week to week with parents and players (game times, venue changes, player attendance etc).
● Provide feedback to players & parents.
● Ensure safety during all trainings and games.
● Foster a positive and inclusive team environment.
● Communicate effectively with the Head of Hockey & Sports Director, students & parents.
● Oversee, manage & help support our student coaches week to week.
Desired Skills and Experience
Ngā pūkenga me whai: We’re looking for someone with:
● Proven experience in playing & coaching in Hockey (preferred but not essential).
● Lots of initiative, enthusiasm and positive energy
● Previous experience working with children (preferred but not essential)
● Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to inspire and motivate young athletes.
● Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.
● Ability to communicate well & work collaboratively with parents and school staff.
Additional Details
● Events: Coaches may be required to support students during key competitions, including school interzones, central zone days, exchanges, social events, school & tournaments (2XI, AIMS games etc).
● Candidates will not be expected to work during the school holidays, teacher only days and public holidays.
