We are seeking a skilled and empathetic Career Development Practitioner to join our Career Development Services team. This role has come about due to an internal promotion.
Working alongside the Director of Career Services, you will deliver a high-quality career counselling service and a wide range of career development programmes for students in Years 7–13. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping young women discover their strengths, explore their options, and plan confidently for life beyond school.
Job Description
Ngā kawenga | Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Career guidance and counselling
1. Offer individual career guidance and counselling to students across all year levels, using a range of appropriate tools and techniques
2. Meet the vocational and tertiary information needs of students, and assist with applications for scholarships, tertiary institutions, jobs, and exchanges
3. Plan and deliver career development programmes throughout the school from Years 7–13
4. Plan and deliver targeted workshops and specific career events
Promotion and awareness
1. Raise the profile of careers throughout the school and wider community
2. Provide information at year level assemblies and assist at the Options Information Evening
3. Assist in organising presentations by liaison officers and career speakers
4. Keep relevant staff informed of developments in careers and training courses in their areas
5. Liaise with staff to provide curriculum-linked career opportunities
Administration and professional practice
1. Maintain up-to-date records of all career counselling sessions in Synergetic and future School platform
2. Ensure programmes and procedures comply with national guidelines and school policies
3. Keep resources current and contribute to the annual budget process
4. Stay current with professional practice through ongoing reading and training
Desired Skills and Experience

1. A trained and experienced teaching background
2. A careers advising qualification and practical experience in career guidance
3. Empathy, perceptiveness, and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
5. The ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and tertiary providers
