Permanent - Part Time
Diocesan School for Girls
Trades & Services

At Diocesan School for Girls, we are united by a shared purpose: to inspire and support the next generation of young women to be confident, resilient, and ready to thrive in an ever-changing world. Every role at Dio contributes to this mission — including those of us behind the scenes, who keep our beautiful Epsom campus looking its very best for the students, staff and community who call it home.
We are now looking for a reliable and hardworking Groundskeeper to join our Grounds team. If you love being outdoors, take pride in presentation, and enjoy honest, satisfying work, this could be the role for you.

Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the role
Reporting to the Grounds Manager, you'll help maintain Dio's lawns, gardens, landscaped areas, sports fields, courts and artificial turfs to the high standard our community expects. Your work will include mowing, fertilising, spraying, drainage, cultivation and hedge trimming, along with the daily management of leaf matter, rubbish and recycling stations to keep the campus looking sharp.
You'll prepare and maintain outdoor spaces for school events, functions, tours and Open Days, and make sure pathways, evacuation routes, drains and outdoor accessways remain clear and safe at all times. You'll also operate and maintain a range of grounds equipment — mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers and tractors — and pitch in across the wider Grounds and Property teams during peak periods and busy events.
It's a varied, physical, outdoor role for someone who takes pride in presentation and enjoys seeing the immediate results of their hard work.

Desired Skills and Experience

Ngā pūkenga me whai | We're looking for someone with
Ideally, at least a year of grounds experience with a basic working knowledge of mowing, turf care and general grounds work — though we're equally interested in hearing from someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn, and the physical stamina for outdoor work. On-the-job training will be provided within our gardening team, and any prior coursework in turf management will be a bonus.
You'll bring a strong eye for detail, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and prioritise your workload. Excellent communication, a customer service mindset, and a genuine willingness to help others are essential — as is a current full, clean driver's licence.
Please note this role does include some higher-risk activities such as chemical mixing and spraying, operating tractors and equipment with sharp blades, and working at heights using ladders. Full training and safety equipment will be provided.
Above all, you'll be someone who role-models the values and culture of our school — proud to contribute to a campus that's enjoyed every day by our students and staff.
Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou | What we offer
Diocesan School for Girls is located in Epsom, Auckland, and offers a supportive environment where staff thrive professionally and personally. As part of our team, you'll enjoy competitive remuneration, ongoing professional development and growth opportunities, and access to our onsite fitness centre, swimming pool and physiotherapy services. We also offer free covered parking (when available) for cars, bikes and scooters, regular wellness initiatives and social events, and the chance to be part of a strong, connected community set within beautifully landscaped school grounds.
