We are seeking a reliable and proactive Events and Security Assistant to join our Property & Events team. Reporting to the Events and Security Manager, you will combine high-quality customer service with proactive safety and security measures to ensure our events — from concerts and sporting fixtures to conferences — run smoothly and safely.
This is a varied and people-focused role for someone who enjoys being on their feet, thinks quickly on the job, and takes pride in keeping our community safe.

 

 

 

Job Description

Ngā kawenga | Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Security and access control
•    Manage entry points including ticket verification, visitor identification, and security screening to ensure only authorised access to venues and restricted areas
•    Monitor and manage crowd movement and density to ensure safety, direct pedestrian flow, and support parking and vehicle access control
•    Conduct regular patrols of event areas, including restricted and backstage zones, to identify hazards, unauthorised access, or inappropriate behaviour
Incident response and customer service
•    Respond promptly to incidents, accidents, or safety concerns, and document and report all incidents accurately and in line with procedures
•    Provide directions, assist patrons with seating and facilities, and act as a helpful and approachable point of contact during events
•    Support emergency responses including evacuations, lockdowns, and fire drills, and act as a first responder when required
Event and campus support
•    Assist with the setup and dismantling of event equipment, signage, barriers, and venue security arrangements
•    Assist with internal campus logistics such as delivery and distribution of mail and packages across the school site
•    Follow all security protocols, health and safety procedures, and event management plans to ensure a safe environment for all

 

Desired Skills and Experience

Ngā pūkenga me whai | We're looking for someone with
•    Previous experience in security, events, hospitality, or customer service roles
•    A valid security licence — preferred
•    A clean criminal record (required)
•    First aid or emergency response training — advantageous
•    Strong observation, situational awareness, and vigilance
•    The ability to remain calm, assertive, and professional under pressure
•    Excellent verbal communication and crowd management skills
•    A strong customer service approach with a focus on safety and experience
•    Good judgement and decision-making skills in dynamic situations
•    The ability to work effectively in a team environment
•    Physical fitness to stand, walk, and move for extended periods
•    Reliability and flexibility to work shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
