Job Description

Mō te tūranga: About the role

Reporting to the Director of Business, you’ll develop, run and monitor the School’s health and safety system, concentrating on the critical risks most likely to cause serious harm. Day to day, you’ll:

  • Lead the Health and Safety Committee and build a culture in which everyone takes safety seriously
  • Advise the Board, Executive and staff, keeping governance and operational responsibilities clear
  • Manage risk across a busy, varied environment — from EOTC, camps, international trips and sport to contractors, events and everyday operations
  • Treat psychosocial hazards as seriously as physical ones, championing mentally healthy work
  • Lead the School’s preparation for the reformed health and safety framework (the Health and Safety at Work Amendment Act 2026, in force April 2027)

Ngā pūkenga me whai: We’re looking for someone with

  • Five or more years in health and safety practice, with current knowledge of New Zealand legislation, ACC requirements and safety management standards
  • Working knowledge of the reformed framework, including the Amendment Act 2026 and its focus on critical risks
  • Sound knowledge of risk management, including psychosocial risk and mentally healthy work (experience in a school or similar environment is an advantage)
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to lead through influence and build effective relationships with staff, students, parents and contractors
  • A calm, credible presence under pressure, with a continuous-improvement mindset
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (preferred)
